The Avenue Surgery

To All Of Our Patients

We are all excited to hear that there is progress on the Covid 19 vaccines that should improve the quality of life for us all.

Everyone is trying to make the best of the situation and, as a practice, we are committed to caring for you in the best possible way.

To keep you as informed as possible, we will update these messages frequently as we become aware of more information from NHS England:

  • The 3 possible Covid vaccines that have been announced are new and have not yet been licensed to be used on patients in the UK – but we are expecting them to be licensed very soon.
  • NHS England has said that there will be some large vaccination centres and some mobile units to deliver and administer the vaccines. However, we do not yet know what there will be in our area.
  • NHS England is looking at the IT issues and other issues such as storage of the vaccines. Once they have finalised arrangements, they will let us know.
  • It is expected that the vaccination will not start for most people until 2021 and it will then take some time to vaccinate everyone who will be eligible.

Meanwhile, we need to continue to keep to the advice of washing our hands, wearing face masks and social distancing. We all are looking forward to a time when we will return to life as normal.

Thank you for your patience.

To All Of Our Patients

We are all struggling with the confines imposed upon us due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

There has been talk of progress on a Covid 19 vaccine that should eventually improve the quality of life for us all, and we are all very excited to hear this.

As a practice, we are committed to caring for you in the best possible way while keeping both our patients and our staff safe. Everyone is trying to make their best of the situation.

To keep everyone informed, we will update messages frequently as we become aware of more information from NHS England:

  • The vaccines are new, so all answers are not yet known – but as soon as we know more, we will inform you.
  • The Covid 19 vaccines are not yet licensed to be used on patients in the UK, however we are expecting them to be licenced very soon.
  • It has not yet been decided which patients will get the vaccine first and where they will need to go to get it but it is expected that those most clinically at risk of the virus will get priority.
  • It is expected that most of the vaccinations will not start for most people until 2021 and it will then take some time before we eventually vaccinate everyone who is eligible.
  • To enable the vaccinations to be given to patients over a quicker time span, lots of doctors and nurses are volunteering to come back into the workforce.

Please be aware that we all still need to keep to the advice of washing our hands, wearing facemasks and keeping to social distancing rules. We all look forward to a time when we will return to life as normal.

Thank you for your patience.

As we are sure you know National Lockdown starts this Thursday for 4 weeks. Please be assured that we will still be working as usual during this time; adhering to all Covid guidelines.

We are continuing to offer routine appointments with our nurse team; if you have an appointment booked please attend as they will be expecting you. We will continue to offer on the day telephone triage by our Clinical team, as per Government guidelines, of all patients with new or ongoing medical problems.

The E-consultation service via our website will also continue and can be used at any time of the day or night; the appropriate member of staff will answer questions to all your non-urgent medical problems within 48 hours.

Remember it is important not to postpone assessment of your symptoms simply because of lockdown.
